Philosophies of History (PoH) is pleased to announce our new relationship with the
University of Leicester. We are inaugurating our new presence at
the University of Leicester with a special preview meeting. On the 14th
of May, Professor Kuukkanen will be delivering a formal lecture on the topic of
his new book, Postnarrativist
Philosophy of Historiography, set to published by Palgrave Macmillan that month. In his
book, Prof. Kuukkanen argues that narrativism has contributed greatly to
contemporary theories and philosophies of historiography, but that now is the
time to move beyond, to post-narrativism. Confronting the historical realist
versus historical relativist debate as a narrativist dialectics, Prof.
Kuukkanen suggests that post-narrativism promotes rational historiography in
transcending the truth-functional evaluation of interpretations and allowing
history, as informal argumentation, to embrace the subjective and objective.

Philosophies
of History meetings
are typically informal gatherings in which we discuss chosen topics related to
the philosophy of history. The regular meetings are held in a seminar style
meant for heavy discussion, with a break in the middle for refreshments. There
is usually a guest speaker that introduces the topic of the evening, as a way
to open the discussion. At this special meeting of Philosophies of History, Prof. Kuukkanen will deliver a longer,
formal talk, followed by a break for refreshments and then discussion.
